Question:
If I am throwing the shower for a friend do I need to also buy a gift or is the baby shower the gift?
Answer:
Dear Ruby,
Excellent question! Lots of people don't know rules of the shower road on this one.
Your gift to the Mom-to-Be is the shower. You, as shower planner, don't need to gift her with anything else, unless your bank account is flush and you just *want* to go that extra mile. But it's not required.
You'll be putting in hours of work on this event and will need to manage every detail of it. That's a huge investment. All your efforts will go toward setting the stage for an event that celebrates a major rite of passage in any woman's life -- having a baby. What you do and how you do it will make joyful memories to last your dear friend a lifetime. Kudos, Ruby! Not everyone feels the call to Shower Diva greatness. This is no small compliment, either. Hosting a baby shower can be labor intensive (no pun intended!) It is a loving, creative and unselfish act. Taking all that into consideration, it's abundantly clear -- YOU are your friend's gift!
Happy showering!
