Question:
I want to include the gift registry information in the bridal shower invitation. Some people tell me it's bad etiquette. What do I do?
Answer:
Dear Leah,
This has received some debate; however, my take is it is not only acceptable, but encouraged to provide the registry of the couple-to-be in the shower invitation. This is a matter of convenience that allows guests to purchase items that the couple not only needs but wants! It's never to be construed as a "must shop here" list so make sure your notation of the registry is somewhere discreetly written on the invitation. I prefer to have it in smaller type, italicized and in the left- or right-hand corner of the shower invitation.
Please note the difference of a shower invitation vs. a wedding invitation. It is NEVER acceptable to put the gift registry on the wedding invitation. The reason for this difference is that weddings are an occasion to celebrate the happy union of the couple. And showers are literally just that! To "shower" the bride with gifts and good wishes so that she may begin to set up her household.!
Happy Showering!
