Question:
Help! I'm the bride. Do I need to give more than a "thank you for the shower" speech at my shower?
Answer:
Dear Sara,
Best Wishes! You are under no obligation to stand up and orate a long speech at your shower at all! No way!!
However, the best time to say something is right after opening the last shower gift while you have everyone's attention. You simply take a moment to look at everyone who is in the room and thank them collectively for their love, energy and time in sharing this special occasion with you. Speak from your heart and tell them how you really feel. Tell them that you look forward to seeing them at your wedding and sharing that special day with them.
Now is also the perfect opportunity to segue into thanking your hostess. For she has set aside her time, energy, finances and has opened her home and heart as well as cleared her schedule so that you could be showered with love, gifts and friendship in order to have a proper bridal shower.
After everyone leaves it is in good taste to make sure your hostess receives a special thank you card and gift that you have selected just for her. Be sure she receives this after the shower. It doesn't have to be big, but it should be meaningful to her. A nice eye pillow, special body lotion, tea cup set, aromatherapy candles, etc. would make nice hostess gifts.
I wish you the very best with your new husband and life long journey filled with love and happiness!
Happy Showering,
