Sexy Aztec Hot Chocolate

ChocolateA Dash of Cupid and a Spoonful of the Aztecs

The little guy with the bow and arrow is always associated with chocolate. The history of this magnificent food goes all the way back to the Aztecs. Chocolate was revered and was served only to royalty and was saved for sacred events. Even the builders of the pyramids in Mexico knew that chocolate was an aphrodisiac! Served as a drink -- with cayenne pepper! -- the elixir was the preferred stimulant to bring sexual satisfaction. Curious about how sexy Aztec hot chocolate might taste? For the fun of it, why not try this recipe out in your own test kitchen?

INGREDIENTS

1-2/3 cups milk

1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise

1 red chili pepper, split with seeds removed

1 cinnamon stick, around 3-4" long

1 1/2 oz chocolate (bittersweet)

DIRECTIONS

Simmer milk, cinnamon, chili and vanilla bean in a saucepan. Heat the ingredients for about a minute.

Whisk in grated chocolate, and let simmer until melted.

Remove mixture from heat and let it 'steep' for another 10 minutes. Strain out the spices and serve hot.

You can add sugar to taste if this unusual, spicy brew is a bit too heady!
